Chapter 2: Design Layer
In Chapter 2, we talked a lot about the coordinate plane system, graphing and using linear functions. Choose one of the following projects to broaden your understanding of the fundamentals of Algebra.
Option 1: "WikiHow"
Write a “WikiHow” Article on how to use a skill from sections 2.1 – 2.8. Make sure to include pictures and explanations. A WikiHow article shows how to do something with a mix of text (explanation) and pictures (demonstrations) for an example see “How to Beatbox” http://www.wikihow.com/Beatbox You can create your WikiHow article on Google Slides and submit it through classroom.
Option 2: Create a Quiz
Create a Quiz (minimum 10 questions) that test skills from 2.1- 2.8. Your Quiz MUST include a worked out solution guide as well as a brief rational of why you chose to include EACH question. You can create your Quiz on Google Docs and submit it through classroom.
Option 3: Paper (1-2 Pages)
Write a 1-2 page (double spaced) paper on one of the following topics/Questions. You will need to do a little bit of research so make sure you cite your resources.
You can write your article on Google Docs and submit it through classroom
- The history of the coordinate plane.
- Who created the Cartesian coordinate system?
- Why was this so revolutionary to the study of mathematics?
- How does the coordinate plane translate to our everyday life?
- Mathematical Modeling
- What is mathematical modeling?
- Why is mathematical modeling important?
- We have talked about linear regressions as a mathematical model. What other types of regressions are there? What other type of mathematical models are there?
- Where do you think you encounter mathematical models in your everyday life?
You can write your article on Google Docs and submit it through classroom
Option 4: Comic
Draw a comic that shows/explains one of the topics we have covered this chapter (e.g. Inequalities, Absolute Values, Solving for unknowns, Algebraic Expressions, Algebraic Properties). You can create your comic on Google Slides/Drawings and submit it through classroom.
Option 5: Statistics Project
Complete the Desmos Statistics Project following the guidelines on the attached pdf.
Desmos Project
If you cannot submit your project on Google Classroom make sure to turn it into Mr. Schwartz by Thursday, September 28th, 2017
