Using each of these numbers exactly once, write an expression that equals 24.
1, 3, 4, 6
Rules:
- You may only use basic mathematical operations (Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division)
+ - × ÷
- You may also use parentheses to dictate how you want order of operations to apply
( )
- Numbers may not be combined by placing them together (ex. 1 and 3 may not be used as 13)
Remember to use all the numbers once and the expression must equal exactly:
24
I first came upon this problem when I was in high school. I am not sure who the original creator is, only that it has a creatively unique solution. Do not get discouraged if you keep on getting numbers close to 24 (like 22, or 23) there is a solution keep trying! Enjoy!
